Year 202512/21/25
The First YearMindTech’s first year has been exceptionally active and international. MindTech was founded on 1 July 2025 — and a lot can happen in just six months. During its first year, MindTech took part in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) handbook project on prison technology, marking a strong start for its international consultation work. MindTech also participated in the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) Annual General Meeting in Istanbul, as well as a roundtable discussion on digital practices in the child justice system in Bucharest, Romania, hosted by Penal Reform International (PRI). In addition, MindTech delivered lectures and expert contributions at the Hans Gross Centre for Interdisciplinary Criminal Sciences at the University of Graz (Austria), the Young Lawyers’ Day organised by the Finnish Bar Association in Helsinki, and the Finnish Psychologists’ Union’s Annual Days at Finlandia Hall. The year also included several interviews and podcast appearances, including ReHub, focusing on the future of prisons through digitalisation and AI, as well as Finnish podcasts on forensic psychology and child custody. Most recently, I was honoured to be interviewed for the Prison Service Journal (Issue 281), a special edition dedicated to the future of prisons. In the interview, we explore how prison digitalisation, AI, and technology can support rehabilitation, safety, and daily prison operations, while emphasising the ethical, strategic, and human considerations that must guide this development. Alongside MindTech’s growth, I continued my MBA studies, consulted on a range of forensic psychological cases, and wrote several articles and texts — some of which will be published in 2026. Finally, I would like to warmly thank all our partners, collaborators, and colleagues for their trust, expertise, and cooperation during MindTech’s first year. This work would not be possible without you, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration in the years ahead. |
